Everyone knows that Sopo is a town that inspires tranquility, security and nature , also it has 26,769 population and is situated 39 km north of Bogota.
But what many do not know is the great culture that has this place.
I wanted to write this article to tell you that Sopo is much more than a tourist destination, Sopo has lovely stories that will make you want to want to know more .
Not to give longer the issue I will begin by telling you that in Sopo in 1974 , doctors Gonzalo Correal Urrego and Jaime Gomez, conducted a scientific analysis to three muiscas skulls showed obvious signs of any type of surgery , these investigations yielded a figure quite interesting , which was that the Muisca culture was the author of the first surgical interventions in Colombia .
To continue with this kind of interesting data , I want to tell you that in 1935 , the archaeological Gustavo Bolinder located an archaeological site consisting of 42 graves containing human remains , ceremonial vessels and other objects , these archaeological investigations made the author of the book History about Sopo write the following » open to considerable depth graves , containing the remains of a race of cannibals, before the Chibcha , possibly one of the strongest , strong and civilized of those regions . The bodies of adults, whose skeletons show a history of more than eight centuries , had been buried from east to west ; the children from north to south. This feature not common to all peoples so far discovered, was found in all graves found in the jurisdiction of the municipality . Similarly, in each grave they were locked all members of the same family , which seems to indicate that when the leader died , the closest relatives were buried with him at the same time . Near the bodies they were found curious clay utensils , glasses, pots and other vessels where probably he tried to keep foods that were usually buried. They were also found in their necklaces admirably carved stone tombs , some with woman’s face » .
Also , another feature that muisca found in this cemetery was that burials had several special features such as ; the » grave goods » «The style of the tombs and the location of the same on the sidings of the hills »
